Ibadan South West Local Government Launches Free Distribution of Mectizan and Albendazole to Combat River Blindness and Lymphatic Filariasis Hon. Kehinde Adeyemi Akande, Executive Chairman of Ibadan South West Local Government, has flagged off the distribution of Mectizan and albendazole to prevent and treat river blindness and lymphatic filariasis in the council area. River blindness, also known as onchocerciasis, is a cause of blindness transmitted through black fly bites ¹. Lymphatic filariasis, commonly known as elephantiasis, causes swelling in the limbs and genitals, spread by mosquitoes. Hon.
