Tribunal Judgment: Oyo PDP Congratulates Wole Akinleye, Says PDP Remains Committed to Oyo People's Welfare
The People's Democratic Party in Oyo State has commended the judiciary for dispensing justice without fear or favor. The party was reacting to the decision of the local government election petition tribunal, which struck out the petition filed by the Social Democratic Party (SDP) chairmanship candidate, Mr. Abdulwasiu Danladi, against Hon. Wole Akinleye, the chairman of Akinyele local government and the then candidate of the People's Democratic Party in the Oyo State local government election.
While delivering their judgment, the tribunal held that the petitioner failed to file their case within the 14-day window period after the announcement of the local government election results. The petitioner filed their petition on May 12, a day after the 14-day period lapsed. The tribunal also declared the petition incompetent and lacking substance, citing the failure of the opposition SDP to harmonize their petitions.
The SDP, which came third, had dragged Oyo State PDP, Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission, and Hon. Wole Akinleye before the tribunal.
Reacting to the decision, the PDP, through its acting spokesperson, Mr. Ogunsina Michael, commended the judiciary for being the last hope of the common man. The party congratulated its candidate on the recorded victory and urged him to use the opportunity to better the lives of his people in the local government area.
It is recalled that barely a month ago, the local government election petition tribunal struck out a petition filed by the councilorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Mr. Omotoso Olayide, in Ido local government.
Ogunsina said the Oyo PDP-led state and local government remain committed to the welfare of the people of Oyo State.
Signed:
Ogunsina Michael
Acting Publicity Secretary
